Silvercore teaches the Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) and the Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course (CRFSC) to Vancouver students at three Metro Vancouver venues: Delta, New Westminster and Langley. Every venue runs the same RCMP-approved course with the same Silvercore instructors, and every one is under an hour from downtown. Silvercore has taught firearms safety in BC since 1994.
Which venue is closest to you in Vancouver
Downtown, the West End, Kitsilano and the West Side: New Westminster by SkyTrain, or Delta by car over the Oak Street Bridge and through the Massey Tunnel.
East Vancouver, Mount Pleasant and the Burnaby border: New Westminster. The Expo Line runs straight there from Commercial-Broadway.
South Vancouver, Marpole and Kerrisdale: Delta. Knight Street to Highway 91 and the Alex Fraser Bridge, or Oak Street to Highway 99 and the Massey Tunnel.
Heading east on Highway 1 anyway: Langley, at The Range Langley in Walnut Grove.
The three venues
Delta
The Silvercore home facility at #115 - 7198 Vantage Way, Delta. Drive time from downtown Vancouver is roughly 25 to 35 minutes via the Massey Tunnel or the Alex Fraser Bridge. Delta offers the most course dates because it is the home facility. Transit to Vantage Way is slow; plan on driving or a rideshare.
New Westminster
The closest venue by SkyTrain. Courses run at Douglas College, a short walk from New Westminster Station on the Expo Line. Travel time from downtown is roughly 25 to 30 minutes by train or by car. This is the venue for Vancouver students without a car.
Langley
The Range Langley, 9938 201 St #2 in Walnut Grove, roughly 45 to 60 minutes from downtown Vancouver by car. Most Langley students drive. The right choice if you are south of the Fraser or in the eastern Fraser Valley.
What the course is like
The classroom is set up for hands-on instruction. We bring real, deactivated firearms representing each action type you will be tested on, and you handle every one. You work through the curriculum with an instructor, write the written test, and complete the practical test at the end of the course.
CFSC and CRFSC are non-firing courses. There is no live range component, and there is no challenge or test-out option for either course. Everyone takes the full in-person course, residents and non-residents alike.
Silvercore students can study the CFSC and CRFSC theory online before class with the PAL Exam Mastery course, so your classroom time is spent on handling, not catch-up.
Questions Vancouver students ask
Do I have to live in BC to take the course?
No. Anyone can take the CFSC and CRFSC in BC, including visitors, students on a visa and new arrivals. The course certificate is federal. Your PAL application then goes to the RCMP Canadian Firearms Program, and residency rules apply to the licence, not to the course.
Can I take the PAL course online?
No. The CFSC and CRFSC are in-person courses with a hands-on practical test, and there is no online version accepted by the RCMP. What you can do online is study the theory ahead of time, which is why Silvercore built its online preparation course.
Should I take the combined course or CFSC only?
Take the combined CFSC and CRFSC unless you are certain you will never want a handgun or another restricted firearm. Most Vancouver students take the combined course. It is done in one booking, and coming back later for the CRFSC alone costs more time than doing both at once.
What do I need to bring?
Government-issued photo ID and something to write with. Silvercore supplies the training firearms, the manuals and everything else used in the course. Wear what you would wear to a full day of classroom work.
How do I get to the course without a car?
Book New Westminster. Take the Expo Line to New Westminster Station and walk to Douglas College. Delta and Langley are car venues.
