We are teaching in the city now

For most of the years we have been teaching the Canadian Firearms Safety Course, Vancouver students have come to us. They drove to Delta, crossed a bridge to New Westminster, or headed out to Langley. Starting 12 December 2026, they don't have to. Our Vancouver course runs at LaSalle College Vancouver in East Vancouver, steps from Renfrew Station on the Millennium Line.

What we run at LaSalle College

The CFSC is the course you need to apply for a non-restricted Possession and Acquisition Licence. The CRFSC is the additional course you need for restricted firearms such as handguns. We teach them together as one combined course across Saturday and Sunday, and you leave with both course reports. The combined CFSC and CRFSC is $270.

Both courses follow the RCMP Canadian Firearms Program curriculum. Both are classroom courses with no live fire. You handle real firearm actions and dummy ammunition all weekend, and the practical test covers safe handling: loading, unloading and proving a firearm safe.

Why class size matters to you

We cap every CFSC and CRFSC class at 12 students. In a safety course, the number that matters is how many times you personally handle a firearm before you are tested. That number drops as the class grows. Ask any course provider how many people will be in the room. You deserve a straight answer.

How to choose the best PAL course in Vancouver

Every PAL course in BC teaches the same RCMP Canadian Firearms Program curriculum and ends in the same federal tests. What separates one course from another is everything around that curriculum. Check these five things before you pay anyone, including us.

Class size. Ask how many students will be in the room. Handling time is what gets you through the practical test, and every extra student takes some of yours. Ours is capped at 12.

Who teaches. Ask who runs the course and how long they have been doing it. Silvercore was founded by Travis Bader and has taught firearms safety in BC since 1994.

What you handle. You should have real firearm actions and dummy ammunition in your hands all weekend: rifles and shotguns for the CFSC, handguns for the CRFSC. Watching an instructor demonstrate is no substitute for doing it yourself.

Where and when it runs. The best course is one you can get to. In Vancouver we teach at LaSalle College, across the street from Renfrew Station, and the same course runs in Delta, New Westminster and Langley.

Getting to LaSalle College Vancouver

LaSalle College Vancouver, 2808 Bradfield Court, Vancouver, BC V5M 0E3. The campus is the seven-storey glass building beside Renfrew Station, near Renfrew Street and East 12th Avenue, just north of Grandview Highway.

By SkyTrain: Renfrew Station on the Millennium Line is across the street. From downtown, take the Expo Line to Commercial-Broadway and transfer to the Millennium Line; Renfrew is the next stop east. From Burnaby, Coquitlam or Port Moody, ride the Millennium Line west to Renfrew.

What to bring

Government-issued photo ID, something to write with, and a lunch. Silvercore supplies the training firearms, dummy ammunition and course materials. Wear what you would wear to a full day of classroom work.

What is the best PAL course in Vancouver?

Look for a small class, an instructor with a long teaching record, hands-on handling all weekend, a venue you can reach, and strong independent reviews. Where exactly is the course held?

Is there live fire?

No. Both courses are classroom courses. You handle real firearm actions and dummy ammunition, and the practical test covers safe handling and proving a firearm safe. There is no range component and no test-out option. Everyone takes the full in-person course.

Do I need the CFSC before the CRFSC?

You need to pass both. Anyone who wants to acquire restricted firearms must pass the CFSC and the CRFSC. Our combined weekend course teaches the CFSC first, then the CRFSC, over two days.

How many people are in a class?

Twelve at most. Every Silvercore CFSC and CRFSC class is capped at 12 students.

What does it cost?

$270 for the combined CFSC and CRFSC.

Do I have to live in BC to take the course?

No. Anyone can take the CFSC and CRFSC in BC, including visitors, students on a visa and new arrivals. The course certificate is federal. Your PAL application then goes to the RCMP Canadian Firearms Program, and residency rules apply to the licence, not to the course.

Can I take the PAL course online?

No. The CFSC and CRFSC are in-person courses with a hands-on practical test, and there is no online version accepted by the RCMP. What you can do online is study the theory ahead of time, which is why Silvercore built its online preparation course.

Should I take the combined course or CFSC only?

Take the combined CFSC and CRFSC unless you are certain you will never want a handgun or another restricted firearm. Most Vancouver students take the combined course. It is done in one booking, and coming back later for the CRFSC alone costs more time than doing both at once.

What do I get at the end?

On passing both tests you receive the course reports you submit with your PAL application to the RCMP Canadian Firearms Program.
